Walter's Emergency Wife
The stench of a flowery perfume wafted through the air. High heels clicked
across the concrete with staccato determination, reminding Bear of those funky cadences from the drum lines
of black college bands. Suddenly, the cadence went awry. The heels tripped, then stumbled into the pool of light,
throwing a tall curvy blonde against the table. She was the most beautiful woman Bear had ever seen,
with long blonde hair and very long blonde legs coming out of a short black skirt—the bottom half of her
bosomy black business suit. She straightened her wire-rimmed glasses, set her briefcase on the table, then straightened the
rest of her. Oh, and the suit was quite bosomy.
He’s
going to marry her, thought Bear.
“I’m Tammy,” said the blonde, standing over the table and extending her
hand to Walter. “Your new wife.”
“My new who?” Walter scooted backwards but stopped short of standing.
He’s not going to marry her, thought Bear.
“Really more like your Emergency Wife,” said Tammy, sitting down and opening her briefcase directly
in front of her bosomy suit. “Think of it like this: In case of potential media disaster, break glass and
wed me.”
